About companydig

UK company accounts, decoded

companydig turns the accounts UK companies file at Companies House into something you can read at a glance: every year from incorporation to the latest filing, as profit and loss, balance sheet and cash flow statements, with charts, ratios and the story behind the numbers.

What you can see

Where the data comes from

Everything comes from Companies House: the company register, filing history, officers, persons with significant control, charges and insolvency records through its public data API, and the accounts documents themselves.

Tagged accounts (iXBRL)

Read exactly

Most accounts filed in recent years carry machine-readable tags, so every figure is taken exactly as filed.

Scanned accounts (PDF)

Read with OCR

Older and some larger companies' accounts are images. These are read with optical character recognition (OCR), which is less reliable.

How accuracy is checked

  1. Check the arithmetic. Every year's figures are tested against the accounts' own sums: gross profit should equal revenue less cost of sales, net assets should equal total equity, and so on.
  2. Repair obvious misreads. Where a scanned figure has clearly been misread (a lost digit or minus sign) and only one correction makes the sums add up, it is corrected and marked.
  3. Flag the rest. Anything that still doesn't add up is highlighted in the tables, and hovering over a figure shows which filing it came from.
Data accuracy is not guaranteed. OCR scans from Companies House filings in PDF format are particularly prone to errors. Always check important figures against the actual filings: the Filings tab links to every document.

For AI assistants and developers

The same data is available in forms that AI assistants, agents and scripts read easily. No account or key is needed.
